The Farmhouse
‘Agriturismo Macinello’ in the quaint village of Montefiridolfi, is situated among the vineyards and beautiful olive grove covered hills of San Casciano Val di Pesa just a short drive from the center of Florence. The building of ‘Agriturismo Macinello’ is made from precious local stone and dates from the 15th century.
The term ‘Macinello’ refers to the type of millstone used for the grinding of grain dating back to the Etruscan era (600 BC to 500 BC) and the interior of the building has been elegantly renovated, preserving the authentic traditional Tuscan style including stone fireplaces, chestnut wood ceiling beams and terracotta floors.
Impruneta, world renowned for its terracotta products, is a few kilometers away. Interestingly, parts of ancient barrels and wooden beams are visible in some of the interior walls and these are believed to date back from the period of the Etruscans (an Etruscan tomb is located a very short distance from ‘Macinello’). The interior of the building is enhanced by period furniture and as well as local handcrafted creations.
